Specimens presents photographs whose characters were cut, leaving a void in the picture, an invitation to look inside the showcase-fridge. Thomas Ruff said "photography can not penetrate beneath the skin even by one millimeter." And what if the skin, the body, could go under photography? Specimens offers the spectators a view beyond the glass surface, beyond the photographic surface, and an extension of the conservation work, a crystallization of the temporal and spatial photographic "cut". But under photography, it seems that we can only find photography.

Specimens présente des photographies dont les personnages ont été découpés, laissant un vide dans l’image, trou-de serrure invitant à regarder à l’intérieur du frigo-vitrine. Thomas Ruff dit que « la photographie ne peut pas pénétrer sous la peau ne serait-ce que d’un millimètre. » Et si la peau, le corps, pouvait, lui, passer sous la photographie ? Specimens veut proposer au spectateur une vue au-delà de la surface vitrée, au-delà de la surface photographique, et une prolongation du travail de conservation, de cristallisation, de « coupe » à la fois temporelle et spatiale de la photographie. Mais sous la photographie, il semble donc que l’on ne puisse trouver que la photographie…
