Le Pourquoi Pas ?
[The Why Not ?]

Le Pourquoi Pas ? is haunted by the spirit of French polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot, who died on his boat le Pourquoi Pas ? IV which was shipwrecked off the coast of Iceland in 1936. He was the son of the famous nineteenth-century neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. Inspired by their attempt to respectively map the physical landscape and the cerebral landscape, Solinas explores the invisible worlds by reconciling the two approaches. Le Pourquoi Pas ? is a set of pieces organized as an archipelago. Its basic principle is reversal.
Series of 66 photographs
In Iceland, in lava fields known as places where elves live, Stéphanie Solinas inserted photosensitive paper into the cracks of the rocks : a serie of cyanotypes, that she calls Equivalences - as the famous series of photographs of clouds by Alfred Stieglitz from the 1920s.
